Our Heritage

PREV  |  NEXT

‘Kupu tuku iho’. History. We speak of our heritage, enjoy the gift handed down through generations from Ranginui and Papatuanuku, Sky father and Earth mother. It’s now our duty to care for and preserve these treasures for future family yet to enter this world.

Kereru, the New Zealand Pigeon is a colourful, large bird often seen sitting gorging on the fat berries of the Puriri. A beautiful gnarly tree that in time will surcome to the ravages of possum damage or weather, only to fall and take root through its branches to once again flourish and feed the kereru.

The background in this painting is of my own ancestral land. Caves Road, Waipu. My family lay it’s roots here upon migration from Scotland. Home is where the heart is, my heart is in this painting.
